Writing memories, what does it mean?
The purpose of Waaraya is a digital concrete way for users to share souvenirs to people they know and consider.
The application provides the possibility to bequeath a story through tangibles pieces (letter, photos, audio, videos)—the emotional legacy. To do so, we have designed a mobile app for iOS, where you will be able to save your memories and tell your life’s story.
An emotional legacy is a whole set of memories that we send to the person we consider after you passed away, it can be a message, a video, it can take many shapes.
This application belongs to the personal development field through communication with the inner circle.
We investigated deeply in the abyss of
life’s review field.
First pieces of information
Our clients shared their upstream investigations:
35 to 50
the age range of
our audience.
54,10% of the audience consider it’s hard to trust someone to deliver a posthumous message.
Fear of being absent in the future important moments of
their loved ones.
Strive to remember
to save memories and
finding the time.
Standing out ourselves from the existing applications.

User Persona
We defined the primary User Persona, a representation of our target user, based on information and data.
Carmen, 43
“Past helps us to give
a better sense of life.”
Always carries her phone with her.
Runs an insurance company.
Believe self-control facilitates to making a decision.
Has lost pictures and letters while moving.
Sometimes she gets stuck writing about
her personal story.
Focus point and problems to solve.
People those value memories:
Have issues sharing their story with future generations because there isn’t an easy and trustworthy way to do it.
Let’s help them:
Developing a secure, long-lasting and effortless platform to do it, so they can keep their memories and tell their story.
We focused our work on one flow: uploading an element and provide the context about it.
This is the first step to nurture the life diary.
First drawing of the user flow to add memories,
(sketch of one prompting screen).
The second image describes the flow to send a message.
How we handled it:
We brought our expertise into this project by working more in-depth of the application and redesigning the visual identity. We iterated two times and realised three users testing.
As a first MVP, we created a mobile version, more manageable for the user to share memories into the life diary any time.

Visual Identity
Our research has shown that people believe we’re made of memories.
The dot pattern symbolises how our parts collide and separate to create a unique symbol. We’ve chosen Archia by Atipo foundry for the logotype because it’s a modern geometric sans serif with vast eyes. It feels open and clean as well as user friendly. We chose Poppins for body text open source.

Takeaways & Next steps
Communication
Having an exchange with the client is vital to develop a better direction on how to stand out from the other application considering time.
Empathy
We need to be gentle and understanding with the user, we need to speak the same users’ language and explain each flow step although sparingly.
UX/UI Writing
To keep an appropriate vocabulary, labels and descriptions in the app needed to be different from marketing terms. For example, we changed the word “Emotional legacy” into Waaraya letters.
